This is a unique workshop to focus and update on the EBUS, Thoracoscopy & Bronchoscopy. Bronchoscopy is an endoscope for the bronchial tree in the lungs. This is used to see any bronchial pathology like tumours & ulcers in the bronchus. It is also used to take samples from different areas of lungs for diagnosing infections & malignancy. Persons who have disease in the lymph nodes adjacent to the bronchus, an aspiration through a needle is done to get cells from the lymph node for diagnosing the disease (TBNA-transbronchial aspiration). This is a blind procedure and many times we are not able to get tissues from the lymph nodes.”  Dr. Samir Sahu, MBBS, MD, FICCM, Director Critical Care & Pulmology, AMRI Hiospitals, Bhubaneswar welcomes the delegates and said, “EBUS is endobronchial ultrasound. This is a procedure done through a bronchoscope mounted with an ultrasound to identify a lymph node in the thorax adjacent to and outside the bronchus. After identifying the lymph node a transbronchial aspiration is done to diagnose the disease process in the lymph node. Through EBUS we are sure that we are getting tissue from the lymph node.” Thoracoscope is an instrument to see the pleural cavity in cases of pleural effusion. Through the thoracoscope we can identify the diseased area and take biopsy from these areas to confirm the diagnosis. Both the procedures are OPD procedures and will help in accurately diagnosing many more cases involving the lymph nodes in the chest and pleura. – See more at: http://www.orissadiary.com/ShowBussinessNews.asp?id=60462#sthash.hhrw28f9.dpuf
